The Communications Center in Emmetsburg is a dispatch center for both emergency 911 and non-emergency services.  The Center dispatches for the entire county, including the Police Departments, Sheriff’s Department, Fire Departments, Ambulance Services, and City of Emmetsburg.
As a dispatch center, the primary function is the rapid deployment of law enforcement and emergency personnel and equipment.  We are here to serve you when seconds count!  It is also the central location for communicating with all the city and county services and is under the direction of the Sheriff’s Office and the County.  The Palo Alto County Communications Center is located next to the Court House.

The Palo Alto County Emergency Medical Services team provides County-wide pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services and provides first-responder/AED Services located in Ayrshire, Cylinder and Mallard.  In addition it coordinates the volunteer efforts of EMS, coordinates Continuing Education Classes, and provides CPR and Public First Aid & Safety Training throughout Palo Alto County.

The Emergency Management Director’s job is to coordinate county disaster services and emergency planning for such events as floods, fire, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, drought, epidemics, electrical or computer outages, and terrorist attacks. They also provide emergency preparedness plans and coordinate the 911 rural addressing system.
The primary goal is to prevent injuries, save lives, and reduce property damage in the community during emergency situations.

The Emmetsburg Fire Department is a volunteer service operated entirely by 21 active and certified volunteers.  It covers 144 square miles in the rural and city areas surrounding Emmetsburg and is funded by the city of Emmetsburg, through taxes and fundraisers. The department is housed at the Fire Station at 10th & Grand. 

The department handles Fire and Rescue, Ice & Open Water Rescue, Jaws of Life, provides Hazardous Materials training, and related services.

The primary purpose of the Emmetsburg Police Department is to preserve the public peace and order, to prevent and detect crime, and to apprehend offenders. The goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment for the residents of Emmetsburg. The Police Department continuously strives to protect and serve the community through a variety of ways that include enforcement, education, prevention, and cooperation.  The Police Department works with all the city and county agencies and the Communications Center for the protection of its citizens.  It partners with the community in an effort to identify and resolve small problems before they become big problems.

The Sheriff is the principal peace officer of the county.  The mission of the County Sheriff's Office is to protect and serve all citizens in a professional and compassionate manner and to provide efficient delivery of law enforcement services to the community.  He is the custodian of the county jail and is responsible for all prisoners.  He executes writs and legal processes.
