Relay for Life Relay for Life is an annual event held in June of each year to honor the community’s cancer survivors and to remember those who lost the fight. Any person can participate in the days’ events and help to support the cause. It is an opportunity for the community to work together to fight cancer. Special events are held throughout the day include contests, entertainment, music, and the Survivor’s Lap. It begins with a ceremony and ends with the lighting of the luminaries. The funds raised are given to support the American Cancer Society research program. That organization is dedicated to preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. It works to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by saving lives and reducing suffering. This event is usually held in June. Many teams participate in fundraising, and numerous corporate sponsors help make it a success. The 2006 fundraiser netted a total of $31,400 for the American Cancer Society.
