Memorial Day Celebration

Each year on Memorial Day, the VFW sponsors a short parade and ceremony for the purpose of honoring our service personnel who have passed on. The local school band and members of the VFW in uniform march from the Food Pride parking lot north to the lake.

At the Flag Pole at Soper Park a ceremony is held to honor the Navy men who have died. A wreath is placed on each of the two tombstones and one is floated on the lake to honor those who have died at sea.

A new Veterans Memorial was built and dedicated in 2006. It is located next to the Elections Building along Hwy 4 South.

The group then moves to the cemetery where a service is held for all service people who have died. These somber ceremonies are a meaningful reminder for those who are living. Following this ceremony, the group proceeds to the VFW for fellowship and refreshments.
