Housing Resources

Emmetsburg, a town of 3800, has a variety of private homes for sale through local real estate agencies. On the average, there are 40-50 houses available for sale at any one time. Generally, housing ranges from $30,000 to $300,000, with the median house value of $61,700 (in 2000), although in 2006 housing values jumped substantially. Rockport

A new housing development, called Rockport, was started in the early 2000s along the northwest shore of Five Island Lake north of Emmetsburg by owners, Dave and Ruth Rouse and developed by the Medium Lake Development Corp. With support from the City of Emmetsburg, the development has been annexed into the City limits and streets and utilities have been installed. In five years, 15 houses have already been built, with a number of lots still available. This area caters to higher-end housing. Call 712-330-5315 for more information.

25th Street Project

The City of Emmetsburg has created a TIF district to help with development of a new housing project in the south part of town. The former Green Acres trailer park along 25th Street has been cleared and new streets and utilities installed in the 2.5 block area. There are 12 lots available for up to 12 new homes to be built. These homes can be built to order or can be pre-designed and will be in the $140,000 to $160,000 range. They are all for sale. West Bend Community Lumber Supply is the contractor. This project is made possible by the partnering of City of Emmetsburg, State of Iowa, Municipal Utilities, North Iowa Realty, West Bend Bank, Iowa Trust Bank, along with some grant monies, such as the Housing Enterprise Zone program. Five Island Bay

Five Island Bay is a new housing development now selling properties on the west shore of Emmetsburg’s Five Island Lake.
